Brooke Van Sickle was limited offensively, but the Petro Gazz Angels still advanced to the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) Champions League Finals with a surprise 25-21, 25-19, and 25-14 sweep over the Chery Tiggo Crossovers in the semifinals.
Compared to her previous matches with the Angels in the week-long tournament, the Filipina-American volleyball player was held to just 12 points in their semifinals game against the Crossovers.
Van Sickle, however, got a lift from veteran Jonah Sabete, who poured in 19 points built on 13 attacks, four blocks, and two aces in the straight set win, and Mary Remy Palma, who contributed 10 markers.
“I’m very grateful to be a part of Petro Gazz, and I couldn’t be more thankful for my teammates. Again, they’re just supportive, and we feel comfortable every single day, every second,” Van Sickle said in a post-game interview.
“It was a team win, like everyone played extremely well and everyone came on fire today,” she added. “I’m just super proud of the entire team and all the work we’ve been putting in. It’s starting to show, and I’m really excited to see us continue growing.”
The Angels will have a shot at the PNVF championship as they face the undefeated Cignal HD Spikers on Saturday night.
