Martial law is an “extreme measure” and is meant only to be implemented temporarily, Senate President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III said Thursday, following the Presidential Communications Operations Office’s (PCOO) release of a propaganda video.

In a text message to reporters, Pimentel said the message of the video was “not clear” and “too abstract.”

“Martial law is never ‘a good normal.’ It is an extreme measure, meant to be for a temporary period,” Pimentel, president of ruling PDP-Laban, said.

Pimentel said Communications Secretary Martin Andanar should “cleanse his office” after the PCOO took down the video just hours after uploading it on its social media account.

“Good that Andanar took it down. Let him cleanse his office of misguided spirits and incompetent people. Hayaan na natin siya to fix his office,” the Senate leader said.

Definitely AGREE, aanhin natin ang mga taong imbes na makatulong sa Duterte administration eh nakakasama pa. Sa tingin ko ito yung mga taong kinain na ng lumang sistema na niniwala sa mga maling tao.

The video, which was criticized by netizens over its message and poor animation, was uploaded a week after President Rodrigo Duterte declared martial law in Mindanao following the attacks of ISIS-inspired Maute group.

Part of the video said some “groups” were “adamant on detaining peaceful spirits.”

“They are distressing feelings with fears. Let us not allow them to terrify us. We will all fight in unity. Martial law should be the rule of the land. Martial law. Now,” it said.
