Through the years, religious differences seemed to have sparked conflicts between Christians and Muslim, particularly in Mindanao.
That is why a person who is willing to see beyond religious differences and actually view everyone as equal humans is worth a news article.
During the ongoing chaos right now in Marawi, it is apparent that people are still capable of doing good things.
A Muslim woman reportedly defended Christians from Maute fighters who barged into a store in Basak Malutlut in Marawi where these Christians are working.
The Muslim woman, named Farida, owned the gun store where 13 male Christians work.
According to Cris, one of the Christians defended by Farida, the incident happened last Tuesday, on the wake of the Maute Group's siege of Marawi City.
Cris narrated that his Ma'am Farida confronted the terrorists who barged into the store and their confrontation was intense with Farida acting with conviction and courage.
"The confrontation between Ma'am Farida and the terrorists was really eye to eye, which indicated the seriousness of the message and the personal resolve that Ma'am Farida was showing [to the gunmen]," he said.
The terrorists inquired about Farida's employees but she stood in between the frightened Christians and the ten terrorists. Cris recalled Farida fiercely telling the terrorists they have to kill her first before they can touch the Christian employees. He recalled that the terrorists were mostly teenagers.
Cris works for Farida who owns two family-owned gun stores. One is in Basak, Malutlut, Marawi and the other one is in the Banggolo district. He and the other twelve Christians have been working there for more than a decade.
Furthermore, Cris said that if Farida has not intervened and defended them from the terrorist group, their respective families might have been involved in the dangerous situation and victimized by the Maute teenagers, as well.
After the encounter, Farida told her employees to gather their families and direct them to Farida's relative's house in Bangon, a 6-kilometer away area from Basak, Malutlut.
The Maute Group has been reported to be killing Christians they encounter. One incident was the shooting of nine Christian civilians who just happened to pass by a checkpoint supervised by the Maute group.

Another incident was with alleged extremist Maute members who beheaded some civilians for failing to answer their question, while some claim that they failed to cite passages from the Koran. The said civilians were identified as carpenters. Their hands have been tied and they were labeled using cardboard signs as "liar" or "traitor."
