Adamson Coach Nash Racela points to money as motivation for well-funded schools to win

Adamson University Falcons head coach Raoul Cesar “Nash” Racela didn’t hold back in his assessment of his team’s well-funded opponents in the UAAP Season 86 men’s basketball tournament.

Racela stated that some teams have lost the essence of school spirit, and they primarily aim to win for the cash bonuses and perks they will receive after the game.

“Some people’s motivation is money,” Racela said in an interview after his squad defeated the Ateneo Blue Eagles 74-71 in Season 86 of the UAAP men’s basketball tournament at the Araneta Coliseum on Saturday.

“Hindi ba, after the game they know that they will get something big? Ganun ‘yun eh di ba? They go to school because they know they’re going to get something big.”

“But not these kids, ngayon nga nanalo (kami against the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles), ano meron kami? Pagkain,” Racela added. “’Gusto niyo kain lang kami ng pansit’ ganun kami.”

The Falcons proudly display logos from four corporate sponsors on their jerseys: Akari Lighting and Technology Corporation, Big Boss Cement, Puregold, and Davies Paint.

Comparatively, Adamson’s jersey logo sponsors outnumbered those of the Far Eastern University Tamaraws (True Value, Lamtex Pipes, and The Seashore Beach Club) and the National University Bulldogs (SM, Boysen Paints, and Omni Lightning).

The University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons proudly sport jerseys adorned with logos from four sponsors: Robinson’s Department Store, Top Breed, Palawan Pawnshop, and Converge FiberX. Meanwhile, the Blue Eagles don jerseys featuring Smart, Cebu Landmasters, Firefly Lightning, and Mt. Fuji Japanese Restaurant.

De La Salle University Green Archers showcase four jersey logo sponsors: San Miguel Corporation, ICTSI, Petro Gazz, and CWC Interiors. The University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers also have four sponsors displayed on their jerseys: Petron, Cocolife, FMR Bus, and AIMM Construction. The University of the East Red Warriors don jerseys featuring the logos of Philippine Airlines, Allianz, Summit, and Eton.
