NBA fines Joel Embiid for ‘DX’ celebration

The NBA has slapped a $35,000 fine on Joel Embiid for taunting the Portland Trail Blazers with a “D-Generation X” (DX) celebration on Monday.

During the third quarter of the Philadelphia 76ers’ match-up against the Blazers, Embiid scored on an and-one fastbreak lay-up to push their lead to 22 points, 93-71. After converting on the lay-up, Embiid proceeded to use the DX gesture four times to celebrate.

The DX celebration is an obscene gesture popularized in World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE).

“76ers star Joel Embiid has been fined $35,000 for his D-Generation X/Triple H celebration vs. Blazers on Sunday,” NBA insider Shams Charania posted on X (formerly Twitter).

WWE superstar Triple H reacted to Charania’s post and encouraged Embiid to watch Wrestlemania XL, which will be held in Philadelphia. Triple H was one of the members of the group DX that popularized the gesture.

“Hey @JoelEmbiid – I know a place where you can do that all day, and everyone will love it. @WrestleMania 40 is right there in Philly,” Triple H posted on X.

“Yes sir!! I would love to but I don’t think I’m gonna be in Philly for that,” Embiid replied. (MJD)
