SJ Belangel, Daegu suffer defeat against Seoul

Samjosef Belangel and the Daegu Korea Gas Corporation Pegasus failed to sustain the momentum of their previous win in the Korean Basketball League as they bowed to the Seoul Samsung Thunders, 84-80, on Tuesday night at the Jamsil Indoor Stadium.

The former Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles standout ended up with 11 points, two assists, and one rebound as the Pegasus suffered its fourth defeat in five matches so far.

Pegasus acting coach Kang Hyeok took the blame for their loss to the Thunders as he failed to master a game plan to stop the offensive explosion of Seoul’s top gun, Lee Jeong-hyun.

Lee went berserk in almost 26 minutes of action as he tallied 32 points, including six three-point conversions, to go with six assists and four rebounds to lead the Thunders’ victory.

“My team played very well, but my mistake was that I did not solve the problem in a different way,” Kang said. “We allowed Lee’s first goal too easily. So I think it worked out well for him. I should have caught the rotation on the outside sooner.”

Kofi Coburn backed up Lee offensively with 26 points and 13 rebounds, including five decisive points in the last minute that secured the Thunders the victory.

Andrew Nicholson top-scored for the Pegasus with 33 points to go with eight rebounds, while Seungmin Shin and Daeheon Lee chipped in 12 and 11 markers, respectively.
