Unpredictability key to Lyceum’s 3-0 start in NCAA

The Lyceum of the Philippines Pirates’ unpredictability has emerged as their advantage in their initial three matches in the NCAA Season 99 men’s basketball tournament.

Coach Gilbert Malabanan of the Pirates believes that allowing every player to contribute is effective for his team, keeping their opponents uncertain about their strategies.

“My team is very unpredictable. When we stay unpredictable, hindi mo talaga alam sino ang puputok,” Malabanan said.

The fact that they’ve had different Best Players of the Games in their three matches is proof of his team’s unpredictability.

“Dito sa team na ito, as you can see, ‘yung scoring namin medyo balance talaga lahat eh, lahat may equal chance,” Malabanan said.

Enoch Valdez, the graduating guard, stood out for the Pirates on Saturday night, contributing 13 points in their 76-73 triumph over the University of Perpetual Help Altas, which secured their sole lead with a 3-0 win-loss record.

In their 85-81 victory over the College of St. Benilde Blazers, John Matthew Bravo earned Player of the Game honors with 18 points, while Shawn Umali took the spotlight for Lyceum in their thrilling 70-69 upset against the Colegio de San Juan de Letran Knights last Wednesday.

“It is being unpredictable, talaga, kaya lahat sila pwedeng maging best player at any given game,” Malabanan said.
