Filipina Ella Fajardo has been named co-team captain for the Iona University Gaels for the upcoming 2023–24 season of US NCAA Division 1 women’s basketball.
Fajardo, who traced her roots to Bacolod City, was tapped by Gaels head coach Angelika Szumilo to lead the team with Sierra DeAngelo.
The 5-foot-5 Fajardo is a mainstay of the Gilas Pilipinas women’s basketball team under head coach Patrick Aquino.
Previously, Fajardo committed and played for the Fairleigh Dickinson in New Jersey, where she averaged 7.8 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in 32 games during her sophomore year.
Fajardo then decided to transfer to the Gaels earlier this year and has quickly adapted to the system of coach Szumilo.
