Alas Pilipinas national men’s volleyball team bowed out of the AVC Challenge Cup for Men title contention after a 25-18, 25-23, and 25-20 loss to host Bahrain on Monday night (Tuesday in Manila) in Manama, Bahrain.
After finishing their pool with a 0-2 win-loss slate, the Philippine men’s volleyball team is now relegated to the classification round, where the highest finish they can attain is ninth place.
Just like in their game against China, the Sergio Veloso-led Alas Pilipinas went toe-to-toe with Bahrain in all three sets before faltering in the end due to some miscues.
Kim Malabunga led the way for Alas Pilipinas with eight points, built on six attacks and two blocks, while Jade Disquitado, Marck Espejo, and Jau Umandal added seven markers apiece.
Bahrain, the silver medalist in the 2023 edition of the tournament, along with China, are moving on to the quarterfinals round of the week-long competition.
