Petecio secures bronze following loss to Polish boxer

Nesthy Petecio ended her campaign in the Paris Olympics with a split decision loss to Poland’s Julia Szeremeta in the women’s 57 kg division semifinals at Roland-Garros Stadium early Thursday, Manila time.

Petecio settled for a bronze this time, a drop from her silver in Tokyo.

Szeremeta managed to outclass Petecio after a slow start by taking rounds two and three.

In those rounds, the Polish boxer worked behind her right hook while staying out of Petecio’s range.

Meanwhile, Filipino weightlifter John Ceniza also crashed out of the Olympic competition.

Ceniza had a disappointing finish in the men’s 61 kg weightlifting division, failing to make a lift in the snatch during Wednesday’s competition at the South Paris Arena.

He was listed as having not finished after failing in his attempt to lift 125 kg.
