"Nadala lang sa emosyon": Sen. Trillanes On Filed Graft and Usurpation Case Against Pnoy

Senator Antonio Trillanes III said on Sunday that the filing of graft and usurpation against former president Beningo Aquino III on the Office of the Ombudsman was just a case of being emotionally carried away.

Sen. Trillanes was referring to the graft and usurpation case filed against former president Aquino for his alleged involvement in the killing of the 44 SAF members at the Mamasapano massacre in Maguindanao back in 2015.

Sen. Trillanes also said that there could be more solutions to what happened than filing the said case.

"Ito ay nadala ng emosyon, hindi maganda ang nangyari. Pero may mga paraan para masigurado na hindi na ito mauulit muli at mapanagot 'yung mga responsable," Trillanes said.

The senator also added that the authorities must prioritize the hunting and punishing of the actual killers of the 44 slain SAF members rather than filing a case against the involved parties in the graft and usurpation case.

"Unang-una ang mga pumatay dito sa SAF ay hindi pa rin accounted for. Sila 'yung dapat nating habulin at sila ang pumatay," Sen. Trillanes added.

In 2015, Oplan Exodus, a plan to pursue a then-wanted terrorist leader was carried out by then President Aquino and the Philippine National Police (PNP) sent 200 SAF members to Maguindanao.

Forty-four members of the elite SAF of PNP was massacred as they were moving out of their camp.

Family members of the 44 slain SAF members have decided to file a case of graft and usurpation to the Office of the Ombudsman against former president Benigno Aquino III for allegedly commanding the team despite being fully aware that the plan was flawed.

Along with Aquino, former Philippine National Police chief director Alan Purisima and former Special Action Force (SAF) director Getulio Napeñas are also filed of the same complaint.

Reports have been released that the party of the SAF family members who filed the case will use as evidence the exchange of text messages among the

However, Senator Trillanes stated that the failed result of the operation must not be a valid justification to file the graft and usurpation case against Aquino, Purisima, and Napeñas.

In addition, the senator added that the failed operation should have been seen as a lesson-learned for the military so that it can never happen again to future operations.

"Kapag pumalpak ang isang military operation, merong mga mekaninsmo para siguraduhing hindi mauulit ang mga ganing disastrous results. Pero hindi kinakasuhan, lalo na sa Ombidsman, ang mga ganung negative results," the senator said.

The senator further stated that the filing of such case can further affect the military, their commanders, and can set a bad impression on the military towards future operations such the Oplan Exodus.

"Ang pag-file nitong kasong ito will set a bad precedent sa mga military commanders," Trillanes said to the members of the media attending a press conference at the University of the Philippines Diliman campus in Quezon City.

Sen. Trillanes further expressed that the military might be "vulnerable" to similar cases as such filed against ex-president Pnoy if what had happened in Maguindanao massacre be used as a precedent.

"Kagaya niyo, 'yung mga nangyari sa Marawi, it would also mean na vulnerable ang mga commanders diyan. Sana huwag naman nating gawin na precedent ang mga nangyari sa Mamasapano," the senator added.
