Nigerian center Ola Ajani commits to UST Tiger Cubs

The University of Santo Tomas Tiger Cubs have strengthened their frontline for the upcoming UAAP seasons after they secured the commitment of Nigerian center Ola Ajani.

Tiger Cubs head coach Manu Iñigo confirmed the addition of 6-foot-8 Ajani, who will be eligible for two more UAAP juniors basketball seasons once he completes his one-year residency.

“He is not yet eligible to play for the upcoming UAAP Season 86. For now, we’ll focus on his familiarization with our system and his new teammates,” Iñigo told Fastbreak/Atletiko on Wednesday.

According to the first-year Tiger Cubs head coach, he likes what he sees in the 17-year-old Ajani, who spent the past few years playing for the City Stars Basketball Academy in Nigeria.

“From what I’ve seen on his game tapes, he seems like a good fit for us. But he’s still adjusting. Kakarating lang kasi. But he’s been doing well in practice so far,” Iñigo shared.

“We just hope that it will translate to a good performance in non-UAAP games as we prepare him for next season. Having him will make us more competitive in the middle,” he added.

The Nigerian big man could potentially join the UST Growling Tigers in the future once his playing years with the Tiger Cubs are finished.

Ajani’s commitment to the Tiger Cubs came after the team’s bid to acquire the services of St. Clare Saints foreign player Racine Kane did not push through.
