The Adamson University Baby Falcons pulled off a 63-59 escape over the National University Bullpups in the UAAP Season 86 high school boys basketball tournament on Saturday at the UST Quadricentennial Pavillion in Manila.
Justine Garcia spearheaded the offense with 13 points to go with three assists and two rebounds, while Vince Reyes posted 11 points and nine rebounds as the Baby Falcons improved to a 3-0 slate.
The Baby Falcons had a blazing start as they established an 18-9 lead after the first quarter before the Bullpups cut the deficit to 30-35 at the half.
The game became tight in the third period, with the Baby Falcons clinging to a 49-48 lead before they managed to score timely baskets in the endgame to secure a four-point victory.
“Talagang pinaghandaan namin itong game na ito knowing that NU is one of the toughest teams in the tournament and we are happy to get away with a win,” Adamson coach Mike Fermin said.
Collins Akowe finished with a double-double of 20 points and 28 rebounds, while Gab Nepacena added 12 points and seven boards as the Bullpups tasted their first loss after a 2-0 start.
