Miami Heat guard Kyle Lowry reiterated his plan to spend his final NBA season as a member of the Toronto Raptors.
“I’m definitely retiring as a Raptor,” Lowry said when the Heat faced the Raptors on Thursday.
“That’s something I’ve said since I left here,” the 37-year-old guard added.
Lowry began his career with the Memphis Grizzlies before spending time with the Houston Rockets. However, he rose to the All-Star level during his nine-year stint with the Raptors from 2012 to 2021.
His best year in Toronto was during the 2016–2017 season, when he averaged 22.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 7.0 assists per game.
With the Raptors, Lowry became a six-time All-Star and a one-time member of the All-NBA Third Team. In addition, Lowry won his only NBA title with the Raptors in 2019.
He left the Raptors in a sign-and-trade with the Heat in 2021. Lowry almost won his second NBA title last season, but the Heat lost to the Denver Nuggets in the finals.
This current season, he is averaging 9.4 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game, a clear indication that he is in the twilight of his career.
Moreover, he is in the final year of this three-year, $85 million deal with Miami.
