Filipino boxer Carlo Paalam earned himself a return trip to the Olympic Games by outclassing his Indian counterpart in the semifinals of the second World Olympic Qualification Tournament (OQT) in Bangkok on Saturday.
The Tokyo Olympic silver medalist bested Sachin Siwach of India, 5-0, to claim one of the three Olympic berths in the men’s 57 kg class.
Paalam earlier dominated the Dominican Republic’s Feliz Delos Santos, 5-0, to arrange a semifinal clash against the 5-foot-9 Indian.
The Filipino redeemed himself after failing to make the cut in the first OQT in Italy last March, where he lost to Turkmenistan’s Shukur Ovezov while nursing a shoulder injury.
He will now join fellow boxers Eumir Marcial, Nesthy Petecio, and Aira Villegas in Paris.
