So yesterday, I went on a date.
I told my parents I wouldn't be eating dinner at home since I'll be going on a date. And their reaction? (Mama) "Ay salamat naay date si ate!" (Papa) "Dats gud. Is it a love date?????" ?????? Really, now? hahaha
Meet Janjan, the 9 year old kiddo I met at a jeepney ride going home ?? He jumped into the jeepney I was in and sang a Tagalog Christmas song then asked for some alms. I wanted to give him some coins then I realized "patay madakpan ko ani kay di baya pwede" and so I thought of ways on how I can give him food. Then I told him, "dong, ali sa. kuyug ta didto unahan ha, mangaon ta." And oh, people stared at me like I was crazy lol He just nodded with a smile on his face.
The jeepney driver then said, "dong kanaog na!". "Ako shang dal'on didto ya", I quickly replied. And so he sat on the other side of the vehicle then we went down. I brought him to Jollibee. OH JUST THE SMILE ON HIS FACE! I asked him to find a seat and asked him what he wanted to eat. He opted for chicken and so I bought him the chicken meal with rice, fries and coke. He ate as if he was very hungry. I ate my spaghetti too. I asked him "Nakakaon naka dinhi saona?" "Wala pa" he replied. "Pero nakakaon naka ug jollibee saona?" He stopped eating and replied "ou kanang sobra ug makit'an ni mama ig mamasura siya". And so I talked to him, asking him questions about his family. So to sum up the kiddos family, his father is deceased, mother is a scavenger, Janjan is a grade 3 student at Pasil and he has a 3 year old brother named Panter. So basically, the mother is keeping both kids fed and one to school by going through people's leftovers and trash. When I learned this, my heart broke. I wanted to do more.
Then I noticed he had no more rice left and more than half of his chicken left on his plate then I asked him if he wanted more rice. He replied, "Ako lang ni dal'on sa ako mama te kay wa pa to nikaon namasura pa to" Then I told him I'll just buy his mom some food. Guess what? he picked up the chicken, ate it to-the-bones. We talked more then he said, "ate muuli nako kay magbantay pako sa akong manghud para makapahuway na si mama". "Hala sige, hugasi na imo kamot didto para limpyo na" I replied.
While we were about to go, he then said "te di man ko pasakyun nila ug jeep, panaugon man ko sa driver". Then I asked him why. "Ang2 hugaw man ko nya mahadlok man sila nako" he replied looking worried. I walked with him accross the street and let him ride a jeepney and told the driver to let him ride free. The driver was kind enough to let him get a ride back home. Then I told him, "bye Jan! pagbinut'an ha? hatag na sa imo mama ug manghud ang pagkaon para malipay sad sila" He replied in a loud voice, "thank you ate, magkita nya ta ha! busog kaayo ko".
Made my entire day ????

May this be an inspiration to everyone that you no need to be in position in the government to help nor to have plenty of money to feed someone.
