The University of Santo Tomas Tiger Cubs scored a masterful 105-81 victory over the Endless Plus Luid Kapampangan in the knockout round of the Pilipinas Super League 21-Under Luzon leg on Sunday at the Central Recreation & Fitness Center in Quezon City.
Lanze Ronquillo was named Kalos PH Player of the Game with his near double-double performance of nine points and 10 assists to go with three rebounds and three steals as the Tiger Cubs heads to the semifinals round.
Andrei Dungo spearheaded the offense for the Tiger Cubs with 18 points, including four three-point conversions; Koji Buenaflor added 17 markers; and Kurt Velasquez and Joaquin Ludovice ended with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
The Manu Inigo-led Tiger Cubs set the tone early as they surged to a 27-18 first quarter lead, but Luid Kapampangan showed some fight in the second period as they cut the deficit to 42-48 at the half.
The Tiger Cubs regained their offense in the third quarter as they outscored their opponents, 35-24, to widen the lead to 83-66 before it reached its biggest at 24 points via a three-pointer by Charles Esteban late in the fourth quarter.
Ernie Pineda carried the fight for Luid Kapampangan with 25 points and nine rebounds; Lanser Khan posted a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds; and Russell Jay Liwanag ended with 12 markers.
The Tiger Cubs’ participation in the tournament is part of their preparation for the upcoming UAAP Season 86 junior basketball tournament.
