Aris Dimaunahan lauds Lady Bulldogs’ response during La Salle’s comeback attempt

NU Lady Bulldogs head coach Aris Dimaunahan liked how his wards weathered the third quarter storm from the DLSU Lady Archers during their match-up on Sunday in the UAAP Season 86 Women’s Basketball Tournament.

The Lady Bulldogs dominated the game from the get-go, establishing a 35-13 lead in the middle of the second quarter.

However, the Lady Archers suddenly came to life in the third quarter and cut the lead to nine, 49-40, behind a string of three-pointers from Luisa San Juan and Lee Sario.

The Lady Bulldogs regrouped and countered with their own run, which put the game out of reach. The game ended with a score of 91-53 in favor of NU.

“Again, basketball is a game of runs,” Dimaunahan said in the post-game interview. “They did their run. We kinda huddled up ourselves, talked about it, and stayed locked in, especially on the defensive side. They were outrebounding us because of their foreign athlete (Aji Bojang).”

Camille Clarin paced the Lady Bulldogs’ balanced attack with 19 points, six rebounds, and one steal. Princess Fabruada added 13 points, five rebounds, and three steals, while Karl Pingol had 11 points, four rebounds, and three assists for NU.

On the other hand, Sario spearheaded the Lady Archers with 14 points, and Sambian Aji Bojang had a monster stat line of 10 points and 16 rebounds.

The win propelled NU to a share of second place with Ateneo with a 4-1 win-loss record, while La Salle fell to 1-4. (MJD)
