Babies are vulnerable creatures. Mothers need to take care of these infants since they are still incapable of taking care of themselves. It is also very difficult to tell what babies need since they can’t talk yet. They express their needs and wants through body movements and facial expressions. Most of the time, they just cry especially when newly born.
This mom however, failed to determine what her newborn baby needs since medical experts told her that nothing was wrong.
Jillian and Jarod Johnson had their son Landon five years ago. However, the baby died a few days after due to dehydration.
When he was born, Landon weighed a healthy 3.3kg but was put under heavy medication because of the emergency c-section. After a day, Landon was ready to go home with his mom and dad. The doctor however instructed her to exclusively breastfeed her baby.
“Unless you’d had a breast augmentation or cancer or some serious medical reason as to why you couldn’t breastfeed, your baby would not be given formula unless a prescription was written by the pediatrician,” Jillian said.

Jillian did what the doctor ordered her but noticed that Landon still cried despite suckling for hours.
“When I asked them (nurses) why he was always on my breast, I was told it was because he was ‘cluster feeding,” she recalled.
When they took Landon home, she noticed that he lost at least 9.7% of his body weight. Still, the doctors didn’t give her any intrsuctions to breastfeed the little boy.
At least 12 hours later, Landon died due to cardiac arrest from dehydration.
It was revealed that Jillian had no idea that Landon was starving to death since she wasn’t able to produce enough milk.
Jillian warned other mothers by saying:
“The best advice I was given by one of his NICU doctors while he was on life support is sure breast is best, but follow with the bottle.
This way you know your baby has eaten enough….if only I could go back in time.
We hope that by spreading the knowledge we’ve learned that we can help prevent any other family from losing their child to something that is 100 per cent preventable.”
