Mother of Maute brothers arrested in Lanao del Sur

According from Chief Supt. Reuben Theodore Sindace, chief of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Police Regional Office, mother of the Maute brothers, Omar and Abdullah, was apprehended on Friday evening, June 9.



Based on the police report of chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa, Ominta Romato Maute, who is also known as Farhana, was arrested in Masiu town of Lanao del Sur. She was taken along with other two wounded family members and 7 unknown females.

"Two days ago, information was received from our [asset] that suspect was hiding in barangay Dayawan, Masiu, Lanao del Sur together with wounded members of Maute and it was revealed that Farhana was buying vehicles and firearms in the area to be used for their escape outside Lanao del Sur province," the report said.

The Maute matriarch was said to be hiding in Barangay Dayawan in Masiu, where they purchased firearms and a gray Toyota Revo before her arrest which was intended to be use for their escape from Lanao del Sur.

Aside from the firearms, improvised explosive devices too were seized from the militants.

Authorities have issued several warrants against her and also identified Farhana as the funder of the the Matue terror group's operations

On June 7, President Rodrigo Duterte said that Farhana Maute wanted to discussed with him about the ongoing crisis in Marawi City.

"Kaya sabi nila mag-usap 'yung nanay ng Maute. Sabi ko, ‘No, I will not,'" he said in his speech at the Camp Leono in Tacurong City, Sultan Kudarat.

"I will not talk anymore kasi marami na ang sundalo kong namatay. Marami nang police ko namatay. Putangina, huwag mo akong bolahin diyan sa usap-usap na 'yan," he added.



Duterte also said that he won't talk to them until the next generation and he also blamed the Mautes for involving the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

"Not anymore. I'll talk right after they are finished there, then I will talk to the next generation," he said. "Why would you destroy your own community? You must be fools. Why bring ISIS, foreigners who just want to kill people? And they expect us to talk to them," Duterte added.

The president clarified that he will only talk to the three groups who seeks peace negotiations -  Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF), Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), and the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP).

Three days before her arrest, Cayamora Maute was arrested in Toril, Davao City along with four other individuals linked to the Maute group.

Others who were arrested were identified to Benzarali Tingao (Norjannah's husband), Norjannah Balawag Maute (Cayamora's daughter), Kongan Alfonso Balawag (another Cayamora Maute's wife), and Aljon Salazar Ismael (driver of the black van they were riding).
