Ginebra crowd: An amazing sight for NLEX’s Asi Taulava

NLEX Road Warriors center Asi Taulava was always amazed at how the fans showed their support for the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings.

Interviewed at the Power and Play program of Noli Eala on Saturday, Taulava said the crowd support has always given Ginebra an added boost to win their matches.

“Even if they do not have the stronger roster on paper then, they are finding ways to win,” said the 6-foot-9 Fil-Tongan center.

“Their crowd support (in the game venues) is different,” added the one-time PBA MVP and one-time PBA champion.

Taulava was on the wrong end of Ginebra’s classic Never Say Die run in the 1999 PBA All-Filipino Conference quarterfinals, where Bal David drilled a game-winning basket.

The many-time Gilas Pilipinas player was also part of the TNT team that lost to the Gin Kings in the finals of the 2004-2005 PBA Philippine Cup, where the Game 1 win of TNT was overturned after they fielded a then-suspended Taulava.

The 50-year-old Taulava was vocal in his desire to play for the Ginebra team before, but a trade to the crowd favorites never materialized.
