Rhenz Abando scores 11 as Anyang prevails over Seoul

Rhenz Abando and the Anyang Jung Kwan Jang Red Boosters returned to their winning ways in the Korean Basketball League after a 96-74 victory over the Seoul Samsung Thunders on Thursday night at the Jamsil Indoor Stadium.

The former Colegio de San Juan de Letran Knights star tallied 11 points to go with three rebounds, one steal, and one block as the defending champion Anyang improved to a 2-2 win-loss slate.

Byeongjun Bae led the way with a career-high 22 points, including four three-point conversions; Jonghyun Lee added a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds; and Du’vaughn Maxwell contributed 11 markers for the Red Boosters.

Red Boosters head coach Kim Sang-shik said it was one of the rare times where they were efficient offensively, particularly with their outside shots, and defensively after holding their opponents to just 74 points.

“This is the first game in a long time where we scored 90 points. Looking at the record sheet, it seems like we did well, scoring evenly, and we also did well on defense. We defended and made quick attacks,” Kim said.

“The players are working out very hard, and I am telling them to have a lot of confidence. We talk about how we used to play in the past and talk about things other than scoring, and it seems to have worked out well,” he added.

Kofi Coburn top-scored for the Thunders with a double-double of 24 points and 10 rebounds, and Ishmael Lane added 15 markers as they dropped to a 2-3 win-loss slate.
