Justin Gutang, Changwon survive tough Goyang Sono

Justin Gutang and the Changwon LG Sakers pulled off a 74-70 win over the Goyang Sono Skygunners in the Korean Basketball League on Tuesday night at the Goyang Sono Arena.

The former College of St. Benilde Blazers guard finished with seven points, two rebounds, and one assist as the LG Sakers secured their 23rd victory in 36 matches so far.

Hongseok Yang led the way with 19 points, five assists, and four rebounds, while Juan Tello contributed 11 markers for the LG Sakers, which survived a fourth-quarter run by their opponent.

“Because Sono is the top team in 3-point shooting, I asked them to go all the way to 3-point shooting during the defensive rotation, and I think that part worked out well,” said Changwon head coach Cho Sang-hyun.

“We were able to replenish our defensive energy well. Also, I think each player who entered the team’s rotation defense was good, especially Justin Gutang,” the veteran coach added.

Chinanu Onuaku finished with a double-double of 28 points and 11 rebounds; Jeonghyeon Lee added 13 markers; and Minwook Kim tallied 11 points as the Skygunners dropped to 13-23.
