Coach Gallent unfazed by Fajardo’s scoring dip

San Miguel Beer is more than just June Mar Fajardo, and they showed it in Game 3 of their PBA Philippine Cup semis against Rain or Shine.

The Elasto Painters were able to limit Fajardo to just 11 points, nine points down from his 20-plus point average.

But San Miguel was still able to walk away with a 117-107 victory and get closer to the finals with a 3-0 edge in the best-of-seven series.

“June Mar had his shots. He had open shots, but they just weren’t going in,” cited Beermen’s coach Jorge Gallent.

“But June Mar’s effort was there, and he has to do a lot of things. He has to score; he has to chase their big men because they were shooting a lot of 3s; they spread the floor. So maybe he’s kinda tired; his legs are tired; but you know he did a great job defending their big guys.”

Stepping up for Fajardo were his teammates.

CJ Perez ended up with 23 points and 14 rebounds, even as Marcio Lassiter connected five triples for a total of 21 points. Don Trollano added 20 points and 11 rebounds.

“Rain or Shine did a good job defending June Mar. For me, inisip ko lang, I needed to step up,” said Trollano.
