De Brito: Jia Morado’s playmaking skills are rare worldwide

Alas Pilipinas head coach Jorge Edson Souza de Brito praised setter Julia Morado-de Guzman for her consistent ball distribution in the ongoing AVC Challenge Cup for Women.

According to the Brazilian mentor, he is fortunate to have Morado-de Guzman on the national women’s volleyball team, as her playmaking skills are “hard to find around the world.”

“We really have a good setter; she is so smart; she also plays in Japan; she got some skills that are hard to find around the world,” De Brito said, referring to the Denso Airybees setter.

“The guys almost play the same system; I always try to introduce something new, something different that I can contribute to them, but it was our setter who served as the glue that kept the team together,” he added.

Morado-de Guzman, for her part, stated that all the players of Alas Pilipinas have contributed to their strong start in the week-long competition.

“It was not just me; it was a total team effort. I can’t do it alone,” Morado-de Guzman said. “Lahat talaga ng nasa court nagtutulong tulong para ma-achieve namin ‘yung wins namin.”

Already assured of a semifinal seat, Alas Pilipinas will attempt to sweep their Pool A matches as they battle Chinese Taipei on Sunday night at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.
