Coach Kung Fu: Poyos’ injury should motivate UST in Game 2

Angeline Poyos’ injury should serve as motivation for the University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses to perform better against the National University Lady Bulldogs in Game 2 of the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament finals today, Wednesday.

According to Golden Tigresses head coach Emilio “Kung Fu” Reyes, the remaining UST players must step up in their must-win game to avoid wasting the rare opportunity to reach the UAAP finals.

“Sayang ‘yung (UAAP finals) experience itself. So hopefully, maging motivation ‘yun sa kanila na mag-step up (sa Game 2), hindi lang isang tao, kundi ‘yung grupo,’ Reyes said on Tuesday.

As of now, the status of Poyos for Game 2 is not yet clear, as the Golden Tigresses’ coaching staff is tight-lipped about whether the Boholana volleybelle can suit up.

Regardless, Reyes said he hopes his other hitters will share the production that the Golden Tigresses will miss with the potential absence of Poyos due to her right ankle injury.

“’Yun ang isang bilin namin sa kanila. Hindi namin hinihingi ‘yung output ni Angge sa isang tao. Kailangan talaga nilang mag tulungan. Andiyan pa rin Xzya [Gula], si Reg [Jurado],” Reyes said.

“Part ‘yun ng laro na, unfortunately, naka apak ng kasama. Medyo unusual, pero andiyan na, so moving forward, kailangan lang naming may mag step-up,” he added.
