Usyk to vacate IBF title, will no longer be undisputed champion

Undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk will be giving up his IBF heavyweight strap to make way for the clash between Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois this coming September.

The amiable Ukrainian announced on social media that he is vacating his IBF title for Joshua and Dubois, who will clash on Sept. 21 at Wembley Stadium in London.

“Anthony and Daniel, listen, I know the IBF title is important to you. It is my present to you for September 21,” said Usyk.

The Ukrainian heavyweight unified all the titles, the WBC, WBA, IBF, and WBO straps, by defeating Tyson Fury last May. By doing so, he became the first undisputed champion in 25 years.

But Dubois won the mandatory challenger status for the IBF title by knocking out Filip Hrgovic on June 1 to win the interim crown.

Even without the IBF title, Usyk still owns the WBC, WBA, and WBO straps as well as the IBO and RING Magazine titles.

Aside from that, he also owns two decision wins against Joshua and a knockout against Dubois.
