PVL hopeful Abellana’s high leaping ability impresses coaches, arena barker

She might be shorter compared to her contemporaries, but former UST Golden Tigress Pierre Abellana has proven herself deserving of a spot in the professional league after showcasing her high leaping ability during the first day of the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Draft Combine, leaving some spectators speechless.

PVL arena barker Noel Zarate shared on Monday night that he was with Farm Fresh Foxies Coach Jerry Yee, PLDT High Speed Hitters Coach Rald Ricafort, and team manager Bajjie del Rosario when the 5-foot-6 Abellana performed the standing vertical jump, emerging as one of the leading draft hopefuls with a jump of 25.0 inches.

“This is ridiculous, Pierre Abellana!” he stated.

Zarate also emphasized that the other player who achieved this feat was 6-foot-3 Thea Gagate, as expected from the projected first overall pick.
Given the height difference between the two players, Zarate noted that they “all stopped talking.”

Besides her standing vertical jump, Abellana also performed well in other individual drills, such as push-ups and the shuttle run, with 43 reps and a 14.35-second record, respectively.

The ex-Golden Tigress recently bid farewell to the UST community after graduating from college this month with Magna Cum Laude honors, alongside her silver medal from UAAP Season 86.
