Calls for Josh Reyes’ ouster grow after another Gilas Boys humiliation

Netizens have called for the ouster of Josh Reyes as the head coach of the Gilas Pilipinas U-17 Boys Basketball Team following their humiliating 141-45 defeat to Team USA in the round of 16 of the 2024 FIBA U-17 World Cup on Wednesday in Turkey.

According to them, Josh is no different from his father, former Gilas Pilipinas men’s head coach Vincent “Chot” Reyes, as they both are seen as incompetent in handling the national basketball team.

Basketball ATBP, a Facebook page dedicated to basketball with more than 12,000 followers, immediately commented following the humiliating loss: “Learning Experience Overload 😢😬,” which appears to be a dig against the younger Reyes.

Another post from the Facebook page GILAS ATBP, which has 38,000 followers, jokingly stated that Josh made history for the U17 World Cup with his team losing by 96 points against the Americans.

Meanwhile, the LeBron James Facebook page, which has 220,000 followers, jokingly remarked that “Coach Josh Reyes shocked the world 🤣🤣🤣.”

X (formerly Twitter) followers were also active in expressing their thoughts following the Gilas Pilipinas U-17 Boys’ defeat:

Prior to their 96-point loss to the No. 1 ranked Americans, Gilas Pilipinas Boys had dropped all their group matches against Lithuania (107-48), Spain (96-34), and Puerto Rico (98-53).

With this defeat, Gilas Pilipinas Boys are now relegated to the 9th-to-16th place classification round.
