Al Hilal Saudi Football Club pulled off a 4-3 stunner over Inter Miami CF at the start of the Riyadh Season Cup on Monday night (Tuesday in Manila) at the Kingdom Arena in Saudi Arabia.
Aleksandar Mitrovic opened the scoring for Al Hilal with his 10th-minute conversion before they doubled the advantage three minutes later via a hit from Abdullah Al-Hamdam.
Luis Suarez pulled one back for Inter Miami with his 34th-minute connection, but Al Hilal restored a two-goal lead with Michael’s goal in the 44th minute.
Inter Miami managed to tie the score at 3-3 in the second half with back-to-back points from Lionel Messi and David Ruiz, but Al Hilal escaped with a win via an 88th-minute goal from Malcom.
Al Hilal, currently the No. 1 team in the Saudi Pro League, played without Brazilian star Neymar Jr. due to a season-ending knee injury.
Inter Miami, for their part, has yet to win in three friendly games after being held to a scoreless draw by El Salvador and bowing to Dallas FC 1-0.
The Major League Soccer-based Inter Miami will next face Cristiano Ronaldo and Al-Nassr FC on February 2 (Manila time).
