Fury: Usyk fighting in the era of me

Tyson Fury admitted that his opponent, Oleksandr Usyk, is a talented fighter, but said that unfortunately, the Ukrainian is fighting within “Fury’s era.”

The two are set for an undisputed heavyweight championship this weekend in Saudi Arabia, and the outspoken Briton’s confidence is sky high.

Fury said that, just like in every one of his fights, he is treating the Usyk bout as an important match.

“If I were fighting an old dosser on Saturday who’d fought five fights and lost them all, it’s very important to me. Every fight I’ve ever had is important to me. Every little fight I had along the way—six-rounders, eight-rounders, 10-rounders, any one of them—was very important. Every left or right turn I’ve taken in my life, every time I’ve fallen over, every time I’ve climbed up, was all leading to this moment,” said Fury in Boxingscene.

“It’s destiny…. Oleksandr Usyk is a great fighter, but unfortunately for him, he has to come against the great Tyson Fury in the era of me.”

Usyk currently holds the WBA, IBF, WBO, and IBO titles, while Fury owns the WBC.

The two fighters made their formal hotel entrance in Riyadh on Thursday, Manila time, just a couple of days ahead of their bout.

“I am very happy to be here,” said Usyk. “Saturday’s a special day because I am going to win. I will have the opportunity to become undisputed. It is very good for me. Very important for my country.”
