Aby Maraño, fondly known as “Tiyang Aby” in the volleyball community, recently reunited with her long-time mentors at De La Salle University (DLSU), a place she considers her lifelong home.
On Monday, Maraño visited her alma mater alongside former Lady Spikers teammate Ara Galang after a year away due to their “new journey.”
During their visit, they caught up with the current Lady Spikers and reconnected with DLSU’s legendary coach Ramil de Jesus and other members of the coaching staff, including Noel Orcullo, whom Maraño fondly mentioned.

“Ara and I visited coach Ramil and the rest of the Lady Spikers after a year of being so busy with our new journey. Syempre nagpa-miss talaga kami,” she wrote with a chuckle.
“Malayo pa lang nakita na namin dimple niya—mukhang happy talaga siya when he saw us,” she continued, referring to coach Ramil.
“Ako tuwang-tuwa talaga to see very familiar faces. Peyborit kong si Coach Noel, nakita ko na ulit.”
The veteran middle blocker expressed her joy at reuniting with the team, especially as they spent hours catching up and sharing updates about their lives.
“Na-happy ang puso ko. We were so devoted with the short time (more than 2 hours catch-up about life) that we had with them so we forgot to take photos. Aww! But these people are our family for life,” she said.
Naturally, Aby’s visit to DLSU wouldn’t be complete without stopping by to admire the trophies the women’s volleyball team has collected over the years. She even shared a photo of the trophy cabinet on her Instagram.
After college, Aby and Ara continued their careers under Coach Ramil de Jesus until circumstances forced them to move on following the disbandment of their former professional team.
Now, the former DLSU stalwarts suit up for the Chery Tiggo Crossovers.
