Boston Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens revealed that they want to keep Blake Griffin for the upcoming season, but the six-time NBA All-Star is still weighing his options as he approaches his 16th year in the league.
During an interview with ABCD Hoop Dreams, Stevens said that one of Griffin’s options is to retire.
“I’m not blowing smoke; it was as good as it gets. He was unbelievable when he played and even better when he didn’t. He has a fan for life from everybody in our organization. You know, if he decides to keep playing, he wants to come back out East; he knows we’re a phone call away,” Stevens says.
Griffin appeared in 41 regular-season games with the Celtics last season and averaged 4.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.5 assists. He only appeared in one game during the playoffs.
Boston is Griffin’s fourth NBA team after stints with the Los Angeles Clippers, Detroit Pistons, and Brooklyn Nets. His best years were with the Clippers, where he averaged 21.6 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 4.2 assists in eight seasons.
If Griffin decides to hang up his sneakers, he will end his career as a three-time All-NBA Second Team member, two-time All-NBA Third Team member, and 2011 Rookie of the Year. (MJD)
