Nash Racela avoids suspension as UAAP accepts apology

Adamson Soaring Falcons head coach Nash Racela has apologized to the UAAP Commissioner’s Office for his remarks against game officials after their 62-58 loss to the Ateneo Blue Eagles on Sunday.

In his letter, Racela expressed regret for mentioning the UAAP in his post-game rant but remains steadfast in his stance against the officiating, insisting it favored Ateneo, especially in the fourth quarter.

“I don’t see any reason to apologize for the things I’ve said about how the game was officiated and for the emotions I’ve shared during that time,” Racela wrote. “If it will do us any good, I apologize for the mere mention of the UAAP in the interview. I guarantee that there was no malice intended, and there was no intention to cast doubt on the integrity of the league.”

After the Adamson-Ateneo game, Racela told reporters, “The UAAP probably wants them (Ateneo). A lot of people probably want them to go in (the Final Four).”

The UAAP sent a post-game report to Racela, providing a detailed review of the calls and non-calls during the Adamson-Ateneo game.

According to the report, three incorrect calls/incorrect non-calls favored Adamson in the fourth quarter, while Ateneo also benefited from three similar instances.

Despite the controversy, the league opted not to suspend Racela following his apology.

Now standing at a 5-7 record, the Falcons are in a must-win situation in the race to the Final Four. (MJD)
