Rhenz Abando, Anyang dominate Seoul Samsung

Rhenz Abando and the Anyang Jung Kwan Jang Red Boosters rolled to their fifth consecutive win in the Korean Basketball League after an 81-63 rout of the Seoul Samsung Thunders at the Jamsil Indoor Stadium.

The Pangasinan-native Abando was limited offensively against the Thunders, as he ended up with seven points, four rebounds, two assists, two steals, and one block as the Red Boosters improved to a 7-3 win-loss slate.

Jihoon Park led the way for Anyang with 16 points and six rebounds, while Seongwon Choi and Jonghyun Lee chipped in 12 and 11 markers, respectively, for the streaking Red Boosters.

Red Boosters head coach Kim Sang-sik admitted that he had some in-game adjustments during the match, especially after the Thunders inserted their much-taller players.

“When a lot of tall forwards came in, we tried to play back down. Rather than that, I ordered a moving basketball like a motion offense,” Kim said. “It must have been difficult for everyone, but everyone did well.”

Kofi Coburn finished with a double-double of 32 points and 18 rebounds as the Thunders dropped to 2-8 with the lopsided defeat.
