Goyang Sono coach excited about Alex Cabagnot’s scoring ability, veteran leadership

Alex Cabagnot’s scoring prowess and veteran leadership will provide a valuable boost for the Goyang Sono Skygunners in their remaining games in the 2023–24 Korean Basketball League.

According to Skygunners head coach Kim Seung-gi, he was able to see some of the matches of the former PBA player, and he was convinced that he would be a great addition to his team.

“Cabagnot has excellent scoring ability and decent game-leading ability,” Kim said in an interview. “The sense of stability that a veteran player like Cabagnot gives will be helpful to the team.”

The 41-year-old Cabagnot was signed up by the Skygunners for the rest of the season as a replacement for fellow former PBA player Joshua Torralba, who suffered a partial rupture of the left thigh anterior muscle.

“Josh Torralba has been with the team since September, but he suffered a thigh injury during a practice game and received rehabilitation treatment until the opening day,” Kim said.

“Afterwards, he rejoined the team’s training and was part of the rotation for the 2023–24 KBL season, but he was unable to overcome the injury in the end as he suffered from thigh pain every time he played, so the team decided to release him,” he added.

The Skygunners head coach is optimistic that Cabagnot, a nine-time PBA champion with the San Miguel Beermen, can make his Goyang Sono debut against the Seoul SK Knights on December 21.

“After player registration is completed, Cabagnot will make his debut in front of home fans in the game against SK as early as the 21st,” Kim said. “His veteran smarts will help me outside of the game as well.”
