Despite being among the shorter players in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL), Cherry Ann Rondina embraces the “heart over height” mantra to contribute significantly to the Choco Mucho Flying Titans.
Expressing her perspective as a 5-foot-6 volleybelle, Rondina aims to be an inspiration for young volleyball players, emphasizing that shorter athletes can indeed thrive in a professional league like the PVL.
“Lagi ko talagang sinasabi na hindi nadadaan ‘yung gusto mong laro sa pisikal na kalagayan,” Rondina said. “Basta once you did your best talaga sa paglalaro and, alam mo, ‘yung passion sa mga tao na gusto talagang maglaro.”
“Siyempre gusto kong magbigay inspirasyon din sa mga tulad kong maliliit na hindi hadlang ‘yung height para makapaglaro tayo and makatuntong sa ganitong liga,” added the Cebuana volleyball player.
The ex-University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses star emphasized that she is maximizing the talent bestowed upon her by God, aspiring to contribute to the Choco Mucho Flying Titans’ quest for their inaugural PVL crown.
“Ginawa ko lang talaga is settled na talaga ako, ganito na ‘yung height ko, hindi na talaga ako tatangkad. Ang kailangan ko lang gawin ay disiplina sa talon ko, kung ano ‘yung binigay sa akin ni Lord na talent,” Rondina said.
“Siyempre, grateful ako kasi isa ako sa napili na ganito ‘yung talent, and I promise na aalagaan ko ito para madami pa akong matulungan and also ‘yung Choco Mucho sa PVL,” she added.
Rondina and the Flying Titans presently lead the PVL 1st All-Filipino Conference standings with an unblemished 3-0 win-loss record following their 25-9, 25-23, 20-25, and 25-17 triumph over the Chery Tiggo Crossovers on Saturday night.
