China’s men’s national team head coach, Aleksandar Djordjevic, holds the belief that the Gilas Pilipinas team possesses ample quality.
He mentioned that the Philippine team possesses the size and athleticism necessary to contend in the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
“Lack of quality? That was a long time ago, trust me,” Djordjevic said in a pre-tournament presser on Thursday night.
“Philippines, they build some athletic team they bring in size. This Philippine team is a team to respect,” he added.
Gilas Pilipinas and China could potentially be on a collision course to determine the top-performing Asian team in the World Cup, earning an automatic slot in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
China is set to commence its group stage journey against Serbia on Saturday night (8 p.m.) at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
