Maicah Larroza: Angel Canino’s absence spurs opportunities for other DLSU players to shine

The potential extended absence of De La Salle University star Angel Canino will offer an opportunity for other Lady Spikers players to step up, as stated by team member Maicah Larroza.

Larroza emphasized that other players are prepared to showcase their talents to compensate for Canino’s absence, as she currently has no set timeline for her return following a non-volleyball-related accident.

“Siguro, sa team, mayroon pa kayong (mga players) na hindi nakikita, so opportunity ito (absence ni Angel) for them to step up,” Larroza said. “There is more para sa team namin.”

Larroza, who scored 11 points during the Lady Spikers’ victory against the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons, expressed that she is embracing the increased responsibility bestowed upon her by DLSU head coach Ramil de Jesus.

“Siguro, I will take this opportunity na mag-lead sa team; kailangan ko mag step up for the team,” Larroza, who is currently playing in her third year with DLSU, said. “With Angel’s absence, mas na-fuel kami na hindi kami pwede magpatalo.”

“Hindi magiging madali ito pero gagapangin namin ito, ang laking tiwala na ibinigay sa amin ni coach at hindi namin sasayangin ‘yun,” she added. “Kung ang coaches namin malaki ang tiwala sa amin, sino pa kami para hindi pagkatiwalaan ang sarili namin.”

The defending champion Lady Spikers are currently in second place in the standings with an 8-1 win-loss slate.
